Senior Editor: Mrs. Cindy Schaap

Cindy Schaap is the youngest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Jack Hyles. She is a 1980 graduate of Hyles-Anderson College. In 1998, Mrs. Schaap was honored with a Doctor of Letters degree.
After Mrs. Schaap’s father went to Heaven in February 2001, First Baptist Church looked to her husband as the next leader of the church. Brother and Mrs. Schaap accepted the pastorate on March 7, 2001, and they have led the church to new growth.
Mrs. Schaap is the author of nine books. Her first book, A Wife’s Purpose, was published by the Sword of the Lord in 1992 and continues to be a best seller. Her companion books, Silk and Purple and A Meek and Quiet Spirit, detail the lives of 56 Bible ladies. She then wrote the only authorized biography of Dr. Jack Hyles, a 520-page book entitled The Fundamental Man. Her fifth book, From the Coal Mines to the Gold Mines, an authorized biography of Dr. Russell Anderson, was published simultaneously with her book, Living on the Bright Side. Her books are written with sensitivity, depth, keenness, profundity, and intensity. In 2006 she wrote Training Kings and Queens, a child rearing book that addresses every phase of the mother/child relationship from pregnancy through adult children. Her newest book will be released at the 2007 Christian Womanhood Spectacular.
When Marlene Evans, the founder and editor of Christian Womanhood, went to Heaven in 2001, Mrs. Schaap assumed the leadership of the magazine. Founder: Mrs. Marlene Evans

November 11, 1933 – July 8, 2001
Marlene Evans was born November 11, 1933, in Wymore, Nebraska, to Alvin and Helen Zugmier. Mrs. Evans holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Bob Jones University, a Master of Arts degree in Christian Education from Bob Jones University, a Master of Education degree in Educational Organization and Supervision from the University of Tennessee, and a Doctor of Humanities degree from Hyles-Anderson College. Mrs. Evans served as the Dean of Women at Hyles- Anderson College for over 20 years and as a faculty member for the entire history of the college since 1972. Mrs. Evans taught speech, psychology courses, education courses, and a unique class for ladies called Christian Womanhood.
In 1975 Mrs. Evans became the founder and editor of Christian Womanhood, America’s first monthly newspaper designed to meet the needs of women and girls with the goal of inspiring and instructing them to be used of God in the home and in the local, fundamental, Bible believing church. Throughout the 28+ year history of Christian Womanhood, Mrs. Evans authored 17 books and 1 pamphlet and traveled nationwide as an oft-requested conference speaker. For more than a quarter of a century, she conducted an annual convention for women, the Christian Womanhood Spectacular, which had as many as 7,000 women in attendance.
Mrs. Evans’ down-to-earth teaching and homespun humor were used of God to help ladies in their marriages, in their child rearing, in their service to God, and in all other relationships of life. During her cancer battle, she had many “cancer buddies” who were inspired to continue on in spite of medical dilemmas. Her favorite Bible verse and the philosophy by which she lived was Philippians 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.”
Mrs. Evans “coined” many quotable expressions as she taught college girls, spoke to ladies at conferences, and led her team of coworkers. Among her statements that are timeless and will be remembered are “Rejoice always”; “One step at a time”; “I see gold glittering”; “The five sins of Christian women”; I’m going to live until I die”; “Give a gift of words”; “Make every day a Christmas day”; “Make the chimes ring!”; “Redbirds, rubies, and rainbows”; “You ‘vill bloom again”; “Bronze every moment”; “Glory in not knowing”; “Circle of protection”; “My nest is best”; “My goal…a dirty Bible”; “Black dog! White dog! Which will it be?”; “Women used of God”; “Love is teamwork”; and “Different women are peculiar.”
At age 67, she passed away peacefully at her home in Schererville, Indiana, and went to be with her Lord after a courageous 19-year battle with cancer.
